Weekend Retreats to contemplate, who we are, life and living
Many of us lead very busy lives fulfilling our professional responsibilities, taking care of ourselves, our social lives and our families and have little time to dedicate to reflection or contemplation. The programme for this year is designed to provide opportunities for individuals to retreat, to slow down and spend time with themselves and others reflecting on some of the ‘big questions’ of life.
The retreats will focus on what Irvin Yalom once described as the four ‘givens of existence’, the ultimate concerns with which we must reconcile ourselves.
- the inevitability of death for each of us and for those we love;
- the freedom to make our lives as we will;
- our ultimate aloneness;
- the absence of any obvious meaning or sense to life.
Yalom. I. (1968) Love’s Executioner and Other Tales of Psychotherapy
The retreats will be held over a weekend in a residential setting. This is purposeful and designed to provide participants with the opportunity to spend time with a small group of people exploring these issues away from everyday life and its attendant commitments. Each retreat will focus on a particular theme and will involve facilitated activities with the group and plenty of space and time for individual contemplation and intimate dialogue with others.
- Contemplations on life and living
- Contemplations on freedom, responsibility and choice
- Contemplations on relationships, loneliness and aloneness
- Contemplations on creativity, purpose and meaning in life
The weekends will be facilitated by members of the Persona staff team.
